PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles badminton players Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah are determined to secure their place at the World Tour Finals, scheduled from December 11-15 in Hangzhou.
After a long two-year wait, the duo recently celebrated a title victory at the Hong Kong Open, showcasing their impressive form. They also finished as runners-up at the Korean Open just before their success in Hong Kong.

In the latest world rankings, Pearly-Thinaah have climbed to No. 7 and are positioned fifth in the Race to Hangzhou standings. Their goal is to qualify for the Tour Finals for the second time, having made their debut in 2022 but missing out the following year. Only the top eight pairs in the World Tour rankings will earn a spot in the prestigious event.
“After the Paris Olympics, our primary target this year is the World Tour Finals,” Pearly stated. “We are competing in tournaments post-Olympics with the hope of qualifying. We hope everything goes well.”
Despite a demanding schedule since the Olympics, which has led many top pairs to withdraw from competitions, Pearly-Thinaah remain resilient. “Everyone is tired, but we are finding ways to stay strong,” Pearly added. “We’re focusing on our physical training to keep ourselves fresh and maintain match quality.”
Following their recent title win, Pearly-Thinaah aim to continue their success. “We were relieved to finally win a title after coming close several times,” Pearly shared. “We don’t want to wait another two years to become champions again.”
The pair, eager for more titles, is committed to improving their performance while keeping the pressure manageable. “We want to maintain good communication and enjoy the game,” said Pearly.
Next, Pearly-Thinaah will compete in the back-to-back Arctic Open from October 8-13 and the Denmark Open from October 15-20.
