New York and Los Angeles casting professionals have overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year contract with studios and streaming services. Nearly 92% of the bargaining unit, which includes around 700 freelance casting directors, associate casting directors, and casting assistants, supported the agreement, marking a significant milestone in their industry.

The Teamsters Local 399, representing these professionals alongside Local 817, announced the approval on Tuesday. This contract establishes the first-ever minimum rate for casting directors in television, a crucial step towards standardizing compensation in the field.
Lindsay Dougherty, the lead negotiator and principal officer of Local 399, praised the commitment of the casting team, highlighting their ongoing struggle for representation since 2006. “Our Casting Teamsters have always been fighters,” she stated. “This group continues to stand united to advocate for the art and craft of casting, as well as the livelihood of those working in this career.”
Dougherty commended the member-led committee for their efforts during negotiations, emphasizing their dedication to laying the groundwork for future contract discussions and ensuring the enforcement of the new agreement. The successful ratification of this contract reflects the unity and determination of casting professionals in an evolving industry.
