A newly surfaced video shows Thomas Matthew Crooks walking around a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania before he attempted to assassinate the former president. The footage, reportedly captured by a small business owner selling patriotic hats near the rally site, has been shared widely online.
Collin Rugg, who posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), noted that the business owner discovered Crooks' presence while reviewing his footage after the event. The video adds to the growing body of evidence showing Crooks' activities at the rally.
In earlier footage, Crooks was seen acting suspiciously before the shooting. A report suggests that he was spotted using a rangefinder minutes before the attack. A sniper from a local tactical team, deployed to assist the Secret Service, photographed Crooks as he appeared to be scouting the area with the device.
Another chilling video, released recently, captures a figure running across the roof of AGR International, a building near the rally grounds, shortly before the assassination attempt. The footage, recorded by rally attendee James Copenhaver, who was later injured in the shooting, shows Crooks moving along the rooftop before crouching to take aim at the rally. Crooks reportedly had a clear view of Trump, who was speaking on stage at the time.
Despite the swift response from Secret Service snipers, Crooks managed to wound Trump and fatally shoot firefighter Corey Comperatore. Copenhaver, 74, and another attendee, David Dutch, 57, were also injured in the attack.
A recent report claims that Crooks, 20, had been meticulously preparing for the attack, spending considerable time practicing at his local gun club, including on Christmas Day. According to a statement from Senator Chuck Grassley’s office, Crooks dedicated around 80% of his time to rifle practice, indicating "intense preparation" leading up to the tragic event.
