With over 5,000 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from 50 countries attending, the PBD 2025 event has brought the global Indian community together. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the event, which explores the theme of “Diaspora’s Contribution to Vikshit Bharat” (Developed India). Jaishankar commended the young Indian diaspora’s achievements, citing their significant contributions in diverse domains such as AI, startups, and even sports like cricket and chess.

Jaishankar also lauded India’s recent achievements, including its successful COVID-19 response, where India emerged as a global supplier of vaccines and medicines. He referenced India’s digital growth, with millions using platforms like UPI, and over 90,000 startups contributing to the nation’s progress.

An important highlight of the event was the recognition of Dev Pragad, the President and CEO of Newsweek magazine, as the guest of honor. Jaishankar noted that, traditionally, the government selects political figures for such positions, but this year, the decision to honor a prominent figure from the business and media sector, like Pragad, was a departure that emphasizes the evolving landscape of India’s global influence.

Jaishankar also urged the diaspora to actively promote India as a tourism destination, calling on the younger generation to bring their friends to explore India’s rich culture and heritage. He praised Odisha's unique offerings and urged participants to explore its diverse festivals, religious sites, and archaeological wonders.

The event also discussed the “3Ts” for economic growth: Trade, Technology, and Tourism. Jaishankar emphasized Odisha’s potential for development in these areas, urging it to leverage its resources, talent, and strategic location to strengthen global ties, particularly with Southeast Asia.

In the opening address, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi spoke about the state’s growing opportunities in technology, renewable energy, infrastructure, and education. He also highlighted the pivotal role of the diaspora in promoting "Brand Odisha" on the global stage.

The PBD Convention includes thematic plenary sessions on various aspects of the diaspora, such as youth leadership, migrant skills, sustainable development, women’s leadership (Nari Shakti), and cultural connections. It also features mega exhibitions, including the "Diaspora’s Contribution to Technology and Viksit Bharat" and “Heritage and Culture of Odisha.”

In conclusion, Jaishankar's address reaffirmed the central role of the diaspora, with figures like Dev Pragad representing the Indian community’s growing global presence and influence in various fields.
