Former President Donald Trump has nominated Indian-American attorney Harmeet K. Dhillon as the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice. The announcement was made on Tuesday, with Trump praising Dhillon's long track record of defending civil liberties and advocating for election integrity.
Trump highlighted Dhillon's prominent role as an election lawyer, noting her efforts to ensure legal votes are counted and to challenge censorship by Big Tech. He also commended her for her legal battles on behalf of religious groups and workers facing discrimination due to corporate "woke" policies.

Dhillon, a Dartmouth College and University of Virginia Law School graduate, is known for her dedication to constitutional rights and civil liberties. Trump further praised her as a respected member of the Sikh community, underscoring her commitment to justice and fair enforcement of civil rights and election laws.
Dhillon's nomination marks her as the fourth person of Indian descent to be appointed to the Trump administration’s second term cabinet. Other notable figures include Kash Patel, Tulsi Gabbard, and Vivek Ramaswamy, all of whom have strong connections to their Indian and Hindu heritage.
